ARROWS IN FLIGHT

with Set Sisters

29 August 2023

After the triumph that was the first ever Young Arrows we are super hyped for this second year. We can talk about the benefits of recognising young talent until the cows come home, but who better to tell you why than our inaugural winners. Next up is Millie Wilkie & Liberty Scarlett, Set Sisters, our 2022 Production Design winners.

Set Sisters

Set Sisters won the Production Design category for the film Herd Immunity for Onet through Havas Studio & Papaya Films, Absolute Post and Jungle.

Why did you / your company enter you in the Young Arrows?

So we only found out that we were entered when Rosie (May Bird Smith) told us we had been nominated. A double whammy, first to be entered and then to be nominated in one go, so a real shock.

What did think about being entered?

We felt surprised but very humbled at the gesture. You just try your best and work hard to elevate each production that you do. To have your work picked out and entered by someone is quite moving and validating.

How did if feel to win? Did you expect to win?!

We've never been entered into anything before so definitely didn't expect to win, there are so many amazing people out there doing amazing things so just to be nominated was a great feeling. To actually win the award was crazy!

Has winning had any impact on your career / career decisions?

Winning this award has definitely given us a confidence boost. It's like a talisman you have for times when you need it most, whether that be championing a daring design or winning a job.

What do you think the benefits are of giving young talent opportunities in this way?

There are so many young talents coming up into this industry and for a platform like the Arrows to be opening up an opportunity like this is really important. It's crucial to foster a more diverse talent pool, and this will serve as an excellent avenue for them to gain access and showcase what they can achieve.

What are your career goals?

We've always wanted to design a hotel, be that in a film or real life. Ooo and a conceptual fantasy world film Guillermo del Toro style. If he could also direct it to that would hit the goal mark! Aside from that we don't have many fixed long term goals. This world is constantly changing, our styles too! Our approach is to love what we do, enjoy our work and have fun, that's when we create our best work.

What would you say to someone thinking of entering this year?

Go for it! You miss 100% of the opportunities you don't take.

Winners will be announced on Wednesday 1 November at BFI Southbank - Tickets are on sale here
