ARROWS IN FLIGHT

with George Telfer

10 August 2023

After the triumph that was the first ever Young Arrows we are super hyped for this second year. So why should YOU enter? There are a multitude of reasons why young talent in the world of advertising should take the plunge and submit their work and we can talk about the benefits of recognising young talent until the cows come home, but who better to tell you why than our inaugural winners. Next up is George Telfer, our 2022 Production Company Producer winner.

George won the Production Company Producer category for the film Girls Don't Like Football for Sports Direct, Womens Euros through COPA90.

Why did you / your company enter you in the Young Arrows?

Agile Films entered on my behalf because they felt the Sports Direct spot I produced was worthy of entry.

What did think about being entered?

I was surprised and excited to be entered. It hadn’t crossed my mind so I’m grateful to Agile for doing so.

How did if feel to win? Did you expect to win?!

Winning felt amazing, I was sitting next to the director, Yoni Lappi, at the awards and we were both quite shocked but his excitement meant a lot - was a good one to ride with him on. I never expect to win anything but I was confident it was a strong piece of work, the surprise made it all the better.

Has winning had any impact on your career / career decisions?

It’s impacted my decisions in that I try as much as I can to seek challenging work with exciting creative briefs and directors with a strong vision. But I’m not sure this year is the best year to have an impact on your career as a freelancer!

What do you think the benefits are of giving young talent opportunities in this way?

I think it’s hugely important to give young talent the opportunity to win awards and be in the conversation like this. It’s a hugely competitive industry and without the Young Arrows a lot of great work by younger talent would go unrecognised in terms of awards and celebrating your work.

What are your career goals?

At the moment to be fortunate enough to keep working consistently. But long term I’d like to keep making cutting edge and ambitious work with talented directors, working across as many mediums as possible.

What would you say to someone thinking of entering this year?

100% do it. It’s a great experience.
