Statement from The Board of The British Arrows

The British Arrows 2020 Awards show has been postponed to 23rd March 2021.

When we postponed the British Arrows 2020 show in March this year, the world was a different place. Although the seeds of the global pandemic had been sewn, none of us could have imagined the way in which the world would rapidly change over the course of a few months. Sadly, with the revised July date approaching, we still find ourselves in uncertain times and have had to review, once again, how to progress with this year’s event.

We discussed hosting a virtual event, or awarding the Arrows without a ceremony, but none of these options feel right. The conclusion we came to is that the best way to celebrate the work and honour the Arrows recipients would be with the amazing live show that we had planned. Although it has been a difficult decision, we know it is the right thing to do to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance, and to properly come together as an industry. We have therefore decided to postpone this year’s British Arrows Awards again until 23 March 2021. All tickets already purchased will be automatically transferred to the new date, and new tickets will remain on sale until 1st March 2021.

We also wanted to do something that reflects the enormous challenges that we’ve been through since lockdown. The last few months have been challenging for us all as an industry and as individuals, with everyone having their own struggles, health or otherwise. But we have proved our resilience time and again, and whilst so many projects had to be put on hold, many of you have worked within lockdown restrictions to produce some outstanding work. Therefore, to recognise the work created during the lockdown we will be introducing a one-off, free-to-enter category which will be honoured alongside the other awards in March – stay tuned for more details.

What this means though is that rather than calling for entries at the end of this year, which we would normally do for the 2021 British Arrows, we want to give the industry time to recover and rebuild. So, the 2022 show will award work created in 2020 and 2021 and there will be an extended early bird period to allow entries to be submitted over time. We’ll be releasing more details about this in due course as well.

We’re delighted that the show will go on, albeit a little later than planned. We can’t wait to see you for a very well-deserved celebration in 2021.
