History of Advertising Trust (HAT) is an educational charity and the archive for the UK advertising industry. Founded in 1976, the Trust aims to preserve the heritage of the industry and make it available to all for study and research. HAT is archivist to many of the major governing organisations of UK brand communications. These include The Advertising Association (AA), The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA), The Direct Marketing Association (DMA), Professional Publishers Association (PPA) and The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).

HAT also holds archives for several of the top 30 agencies including Ogilvy & Mather and JWT, as well as dozens of agencies that no longer trade such as Bates UK/Dorland and Collett Dickenson Pearce (CDP). In addition, the Trust’s collections include many industry clubs such as Women in Advertising and Communications London (WACL), The Publicity Club of London, The Solus Club and The Thirty Club. As a British Arrows partner, HAT is also delighted to preserve the wonderful British Arrows Awards Archive, which holds over 40 years of UK advertising heritage and over 30,000 examples of the best of British commercials.
