Darapen Vongsa-Nga

TV Producer, AMVBBDO

If you’re going to make something, do it properly, half-arsed is not an option.

Eleven years ago, Darapen came to a fork in the road and had to make a difficult decision about which career path to follow. One option was to nurture her god-given talent and dedicate her life to the art of Ping-Pong. The other was to pursue her other passion and dive into the world of advertising.

While training for the 2006 World Team Table Tennis Championships in Bremen, fate stepped in and made the decision for her. In a rigorous practice session, Darapen broke her wrist in three places, forcing her to retire from international competition. It was agony at the time, but she would later remark that it was probably the best thing that ever happened to her.

She dived head first into advertising debuting at Saatchi & Saatchi, as a grad in Account Management. It was there, while working on TV campaigns for brands like Toyota and Visa, that she got the taste for production. No longer satisfied with being at arm's length to the craft itself, she wrestled her way in to the TV department where she trained and had the opportunity to work with renowned directors such as Ringan Ledwidge, Ben Wheatley, Traktor and Chris Palmer.

While at Saatchi & Saatchi, her keen interest and eye for rising talent positioned her nicely within the team curating for the Cannes New Directors’ Showcase.

After honing her skills for nine years, Darapen eventually moved to AMVBBDO and the rest as they say, is history.
