Craft to me means glue, scissors, crayons, coloured paper, glitter, felt, pipe-cleaners and maybe some shells.
A failed science graduate from Durham University, Dougal began his career as a copywriter at The Leith Agency, Edinburgh, before apprehensively moving to London to begin directing at Blink. He started out making music videos for artists including British Sea Power, The Streets, Bat For Lashes, Basement Jaxx, Dizzee Rascal, Jarvis Cocker, Goldfrapp and Coldplay.
Gradually he was reluctantly trusted with directing commercials for clients such as IKEA, John Lewis, Channel 4, Three Mobile, Lurpak, the BBC, Stella Artois, Amnesty International and Apple.
Somehow Dougal’s awards include the British Arrows’ Chairman’s Award, a Commercial of the Year Arrow, 7 Gold Arrows, 10 Silver Arrows, 2 Best Crafted Commercial Craft Arrows, 4 Director Craft Arrows, 2 D&AD black pencils, 6 D&AD yellow pencils, and the Film and Craft Grand Prix at Cannes Lions.
